Complaints About GMCA

One of several in this discussion thread (my bolding):

Goddess Moon Circle Academy--Word of Caution

WOW its been forever since I have been up here! Busy busy mommy!

I have a warning for anyone considering GMCA for next year. We used them last year, We paid the $70 for the base cirriculum and to be enrolled on the umbrella...Well the year came and went and not once did we EVER hear from a teacher or anyone for that matter after we got the passwords. I sent in weekly updates and went on about my merry way..

We decided for financial reasons to use an e-school this year. 1 going into K and another going into 1st. I sent in the enrollment papers and suddenly I get a call. GMCA did not supply any transcripts, their phone was disconnected and they are not accredited to offer an umbrella. They did not report to the state that we were enrolled, and they have all but disappeared. My 1st grader now has to repeat K as we have nothing to prove she was in school last year, thankfully the school was willing to work with me on the legal end of things.

I am very upset at this point, I was assured that I did not have to worry about anything from the State reporting since they are a "parochial school".

So if your considering using them, be very cautious and call your dept of ed to be sure they are on the up and up!

Is the "academy" regulated by any state or federal homeschooling laws?  What makes it kosher?  If it has to be validated by some body or other, it might help to let that body know what's really happening.

A letter was received back from the California Board of Education. Apparently no laws are on the books to protect kids and parents from this type of scam.
